The Zambian Premier League has officially opened the player registration and transfer window for the 2026–2027 Transition Season.
According to a press statement issued by ZPL Head of Communications Christina Zulu, the registration window opened on 1 June 2026 and will close on 31 August 2026.
The league has also confirmed that, in line with the revised football calendar for the Transition Season, there will be only one registration and transfer window during the season.
The 2026–2027 Transition Season is scheduled to kick off in September 2026 and conclude on 19 December 2026. This shortened season will pave the way for the introduction of a full annual football calendar in 2027.
Following the Transition Season, the 2027 football season will begin in March 2027 and run through to December 2027.
From 2027 onwards, player registration and transfer windows will be structured differently. The first registration window will run from 1 January to the first week of April, with the exact closing date to be communicated separately. A second registration window will run from 1 June to 30 June.
ZPL has reminded clubs that all player registrations, transfers and de-registrations must be completed within the official registration periods. The league says no registrations will be processed outside the stipulated windows except in circumstances allowed by the applicable regulations.
The announcement is important for clubs preparing for the Transition Season, as they now have until the end of August to finalise squad changes before the new campaign begins.

For clubs, the next three months will be important for squad building, player renewals, new signings and de-registrations. With only one window available during the Transition Season, teams will need to plan carefully before the league kicks off in September.
For supporters, the transfer window could bring early signs of which clubs are strengthening ahead of what will be a shorter but important season in Zambian football.
