Zambia international Lameck Banda has opened a new chapter in his career after being unveiled by Libyan champions Al-Swehly on a three-year contract, bringing fresh excitement but also controversy surrounding his departure from Italian club Lecce.
The 25-year-old winger has reportedly been provisionally cleared by FIFA to play for Al-Swehly, with his International Transfer Certificate delivered to the Libyan football authorities. The clearance means Banda can now focus on competing for his new side despite the unresolved contractual battle with Lecce.
Lecce maintains that Banda remains under contract until June 2027 after the Italian club exercised an extension option. Banda’s camp, however, disputes the circumstances surrounding that extension, turning his move to Libya into a complicated transfer saga.
For Al-Swehly, Banda arrives at an exciting time. The Libyan champions are preparing for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, giving the Zambia winger a chance to test himself on one of Africa’s biggest club stages.
Known for his pace, attacking instinct and ability to take on defenders, Banda could become an important weapon for Al-Swehly as they chase success at home and in continental competition.
While the contractual dispute with Lecce is far from over, FIFA’s provisional clearance has opened the door for Banda to get back to what matters most to him—playing football.
