Barbra Banda Makes Orlando Pride History in Victory Over Houston

Zambia captain Barbra Banda made Orlando Pride history after scoring her 14th goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Houston Dash, before earning a third consecutive Women’s Ballon d’Or nomination.

Zambia captain Barbra Banda continues to rewrite the record books in the United States after helping Orlando Pride to a 3-1 victory over Houston Dash on Sunday.

Banda was among the scorers as Orlando produced a strong performance, taking control early before securing all three points after kickoff was delayed by more than 90 minutes due to inclement weather.

The Zambian striker made history in the 44th minute when she calmly converted from the penalty spot. Her 14th goal of the season made her the first Orlando Pride player to reach that tally in a single NWSL campaign, setting a new club record.

The previous record of 13 goals was originally set by Marta in 2017 and matched by Banda during Orlando’s championship-winning 2024 campaign.

The goal further showed Banda’s growing influence in Orlando’s attack, with the Zambia captain continuing to deliver at the highest level in one of the world’s leading women’s leagues.

Orlando built a commanding three-goal advantage, with Haley McCutcheon adding the third in the second half after combining with Banda, before Houston pulled one back through Kiki Van Zanten in the 72nd minute.

And there was more recognition for Banda this week.

On Tuesday, she was named among the nominees for the 2026 Women’s Ballon d’Or, earning her third consecutive nomination and recognition alongside some of the biggest names in the women’s game.
